Hurst Named Athletic Director

Begins July 1.

Benjamin Hurst has been named the new athletic director at Bethany Christian Schools, effective July 1. He is replacing Bryan Kehr, who has accepted a position as women’s soccer coach at Hesston College, Hesston, Kan., next year.

Hurst, who currently teaches technology education at Goshen Middle School, has coached throughout his fifteen-year teaching career, primarily cross country and track at both the middle school and high school level. Most recently he coached Bethany’s track club and middle school cross country team. Prior to that he had served as Goshen High School’s girls cross country coach for five years.

Hurst says, “I am truly excited to be joining Bethany Christian Schools. Bethany is well known for developing individual student’s gifts, high academic achievement, and a strong sense of community. I believe these values are also a strong foundation for a quality athletic program. I am looking forward to serving with the student athletes, faculty, staff, and parents to see Bruin athletics continue to grow as a positive and successful program.”

Benji and his wife Leah, who live in Goshen, are members of Pleasant View Mennonite Church. They have two children, Katie who is in eighth grade at Bethany, and Simon who has been accepted for sixth grade next year. In recent years, Benji has had a growing sense of calling to Bethany, and he’s excited about the opportunities his new role will afford.
