Eighth grader Lucas Morgan places 2nd out of 39 participants in the Feb. 10 Elkhart County spelling bee. After five rounds only two contestants were left. When Lucas incorrectly spelled "barrio," Adam Freymiller of NorthWood Middle School correctly spelled "spinet" and "neologism" to win the bee.

Lucas, who is the son of Tim and Sandy Morgan, represented Bethany for the second time, as he also won the schoolwide spelling bee two years ago as a sixth grader.
