Envirothon Goes to State

Places first in regional. Bethany placed 9th out of 15 teams at the Apr. 29 state Environthon contest in Muncie. The team qualified by taking first place in the March 19 Indiana Envirothon Northeast Regional Contest.The contest was sponsored by the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Bethany tied for first with Fort Wayne Northrop, but won on tiebreaker rules.

The Envirothon is a competitive learning event for high school-aged students to test their knowledge of environmental resources, including: soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues. Team members and their area of expertise include: Michael and Dan Fecher (soils and current events), Hannah Johnson (acquatics), David Nussbaum (forestry), John Thornton (wildlife). Jon Mark served as an alternate. Coaches were Jason Kauffman ('00) and science teacher Amy Thut ('95).
