MS Science Fair
Consumer, technology, and environmental awareness were the categories for students to create their science fair projects for Thursday, May 15. Judges Karla Weldy and Bob Wheeler gave each project a blue, red, or white ribbon. In addition special awards will be given for most useful topic, tastiest project, neatest display, most colorful board, and most unique topic. All students in grades 6-8 participated in this event.
Seventh-grader Jesse Bontreger studied the effects of sleep deprivation on athletic performance. He tested this by reducing the amount of his nightly sleep over four days and then recording how many free throw baskets he could make immediately after waking up.
Eighth-graders Andy Slagel and Jeff Yoder combined to study the effects of junk food on mice. They found that compared to a mouse eating its normal food, a mouse eating only junk food lost weight, become jittery, would exercise for shorter amounts of time, and began sleeping longer.
