Service Day
Students Give Back to Community
Putting in piers at Camp Mack.High school students spent Wednesday, May 11, giving back to the community by serving local non-profit agencies.
Assistant Principal Hank Willems reports that agencies are so eager to have Bethany students return that they begin contacting him several months in advance--or before.Among the agencies served is the Elkhart County Parks Department.
This year students worked at Bonneyville and OxBow Parks as well as at the DNR Nature Preserve. Larry Neff, director of the parks department thanked assistant principal Hank Willems for their good work and requested that Bethany students participate there again next year.
Likewise Camp Friedenswald thanked Willems, saying, "We'd love to be on your list for next year! Thank you so much for all the hard work the students put in"
And Steve Thomas, director of Pathways Retreat Center said, "Best group we've ever had"--until next year of course.
Though students serve others regularly in other settings, this provides yet another opportunity to focus on others, to experience the joy of giving, to support our community, and to thank the many people who support Bethany students.
Sixth and Seventh graders will serve in local congregations on Friday, May 20.
