Winter Chapel Series

Spiritual Gifts is the focus for a special chapel series planned by the Chapel Committee to be presented throughout January and February. While last year's series focused on the Seven Deadly Sins that followers of Christ should avoid, this year's exploration will focus on the positive gifts of the spirit identified in the New Testament and where we see them being used today.

The committee considered several lists of spiritual gifts identified in the New Testament and selected eight gifts of greatest interest. The list includes both gifts with which we're fairly familiar and those with which we're less familiar:

  • Hannah ('03) and Justin ('03) Heinzekehr, spiritual discernment
  • Regina Shands Stoltzfus, helping/encouragement
  • Amy Kratzer, life as ministry
  • Lore Blen-Gibson, speaking in tongues
  • Wes Bontreger ('77), performing miracles
  • Dan Schroc, prophesying
  • Mick Sommers, leading
  • Mary Lehman Yoder, hospitality

The committee has asked speakers to focus in particular on how these gifts are expressed, where we might see them today, and which gifts we ourselves possess. Underlying the series is the idea that God has given each of us gifts to employ as we follow Christ and serve others. We'll celebrate the variety of gifts and the opportunity we have to use the gifts we've been given.
