District Music Contests
Bethany students earn 53 gold medals
At the ISSMA distruct instrumental contest on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, Bethany instrumentalists earned 46 gold medals, 15 silver, and 1 bronze. And one week later, vocalists and pianists earned an additional 7 golds and two silvers.
Soloists competing in group I and qualifying for state by earning gold are instrumentalists Sara Erb, Sadie Gustafson-Zook and Adam Krahn, pianist Blake Shetler, and vocalists Katie Shank, Sadie Gustafson-Zook, Sara Erb, and Blake Shetler. Also qualifying for state is the string quartet of Adam Krahn, Sadie Gustafson-Zook, Isaac Schertz, and Katie Hurst.
Other soloists receiving gold medals are Isabel Rondo, Jackson King, Danielle Yoder, Neel Bhagat, Simon Hurst, Mags Dutchersmith, Gabby Klopfenstein, Nathanael Eby, Paul Krabill, and Rachel A. Schrock. Sarah Leininger, Lena Yeakey, and Wade Troyer also earned medals.
Ensembles receiving gold medals are the MS woodwind quintet (Isabel Rondo, Sofia Thomas, Joel Plank, Nick Schrock and Jackson King), the MS saxophone quintet (Brandon Nyugen, Joel Plank, Lane Miller, Becca Berkey, and Jackson King), the MS low brass choir (Mason Tollar, Joel Miller, Matthew Smucker, Martin Gerig, Noah Richer, and Peter Shirk), the 6th grade saxophone trio (Dustin Miller, Conrad Yoder, and Braden Miller), the HS mixed woodwind trio (Jesse Amstutz, Hans Miller, and Jordan Haarer) and the MS strings (Mags Dutchersmith, Thomas Schlabach, Nathanael Eby, Anna Smucker, Naomi Riley, Gabby Klopfenstein, Grace Rheinheimer, Hannah Yeakey and Byeong Min Lim).
Ensembles receiving silver medals are the MS clarinet trio (Danielle Yoder, Brooke Weaver and Sofia Thomas), the MS brass quartet (Ian Bomberger, Kyle Snyder, Matthew Smucker and Joel Miller) the HS large string ensemble (Isaac Schertz, Katie Hurst, Olivia Copsey, Chris Markham, Sadie Gustafson-Zook, Lena Yeakey and Adam Krahn), and the HS vocal ensemble (Katie Shank, Lynea Kaethler, and Samantha Kauffman).
