New School Year Begins

Kickoff/Open House 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17.

Families of all students and faculty are invited to attend an all-school Kickoff supper and Parent-Teacher Organization Open House at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17. This will be an opportunity to meet teachers and other parents and learn more about opportunities to be involved in the PTO.

Students attended their first day of classes on Thursday, Aug. 13, which concluded with the an all-school social (see photos below). Middle school students played interactive and get-acquainted games while the high school had their traditional tug-of-war competion between classes. Several graduates from the class of 2009 showed up to cheer them on as they tailgated in the parking lot during the afternoon.

For the 24 new sixth graders and nearly 20 other new students in grades 7-12 there is a lot of change as they learn about the Bethany community. However, returning students are also experience some changes this year. One of the changes for the 2009-10 school year is a redesigned timetable that aligns middle school and high school periods. Except for weather delays and planned late start/early dismissals, school will begin at 7:50 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. each day. A pdf copy of the timetables, along with other student information such as the student handbook, may be downloaded in pdf format in the Student Resource section of our website.

Other innovative academic programs to be implemented include a mentor program, J term, senior job shadowing, AP and dual credit courses, and redesigns of the music program, middle school program of study, and technology scope and sequence. For more information on these changes see Academic Program Plan.
