Sophomores Write/Perform Musical
Listen to excerpts of Bethany's version of high school musical: Cookie and Checked Out.
After attending a musical performance at Amish Acres, seven sophomore Class Voice students decided to write a musical about relationships at Bethany. They wrote and performed four scenes, each with a solo or duet.
In the opening scene Saber and Mia meet in the lunch line where she gets the last cookie. He sits with his friends and she with hers, but they have begun to notice each other. In scene 2, Stuck in the Muck, Saber helps Mia out of the wetland muck in Environmental Science class. He then helps one of her friends, which begins to cause friction among the three. In scene three Mia is "looking for romance in the stacks" when she bumps into Saber. Their friends then arrange for them to meet in the gazebo and then join them for the grand finale.
Teacher J.D. Smucker says, "Students have learned composition skills, in addition to vocal technique, and how to put together a musical with a theme, dialogue, and choreography. It has been an amazing learning experience." The class is making a video recording of the entire musical.
