Week of Compassion
Food and Clothing Drive
Bethany held a food and clothing drive as part of the school's participation in Goshen’s Week of Compassion Nov. 1-7. The focus of the week was to raise the community’s awareness of the needs of many of our neighbors. The Center for Healing and Hope, The Window, and East Goshen Mennonite Church Food Pantry are three non-profit, faith-based agencies in Goshen providing emergency food, clothing, and medical care to the underserved.
The Student Body Association established a school goal of 2,500 items. At week's end students had donated 941 food items and 1,113 pounds of clothes for a grand total of 3,167.
Steve Slagel, pastor of East Goshen Mennonite Church, presented a middle school chapel on the work of the food pantry at the church. He encouraged students to find ways to be hospitable and compassionate to those who are underserved in our community. Students also listened to three broadcasts specially made for the students by Froggy radio's Zach Attack as he interviewed workers and customers at the food pantry: clip 1, clip 2, clip 3.
