2023 Forensics Awards

We have come to the conclusion of another successful speech and debate season! Two students from Bethany will compete this summer in the National Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.

Over the past months, the team put in countless hours of preparation and practice, gave powerful speeches, convincing arguments, and compelling performances. They researched effectively, organized their thoughts, and expressed themselves persuasively.

All of the hard work they put into this season really shows in what they have accomplished as a team and as individuals.

This year, the team earned these awards: Northeast Indiana District debate – first (fourth year running) and Northeast Indiana District Leading Chapter Award (2011-2022). They also placed fourth at Dwenger Del Nelson tournament, seventh at Plymouth Snowmageddon Invitational, and third at Columbia City High School Speech and Debate Tournament.

Students achieved many individual successes, including Ian McHugh and Nico Brenneman-Ochoa, who both qualified for the National debate tournament for the third year in a row while also earning Academic All-American honors and being named to the All-District team. Other team members receiving varsity letters include Evan Gutierrez, Daphne Diener, Senper Solomon, Nico Brenneman-Ochoa, Ian McHugh, and Oliva Renze.
