2018 Forensics Awards Summary

 

Thirteen students earned varsity letters with four receiving presitigious Academic All-American awards (less than 500 nationwide): senior Jonah Hochstetler and juniors Philip Krabill, Alistair Tollar, and Fiona Yeakey. Senior Joel Yoder was recognized as Northwest Indiana District Student of the Year.

Earning varsity letters include (number of letter in parentheses): Fiona Yeakey (3); Rachel Leininger (1), Naomi Klassen (1), Jack Hager (1), Alistair Tollar (3); Peace Muhagachi (1), Christian Yoder (2), Zana Mlotshwa (2), Klaust Bottorff (1), Jonah Hochstetler (3), Philip Krabill (3), Joel Yoder (4).

Receiving special awards at Bethany Christian Schools speech and debate awards program were junior Fiona Yeakey, sophomore Peace Muhagachi, and junior Alex Cartwright. Yeakey received the award for highest net points (342) for a veteran speaker 342 and Muhagachi highest net points (192) for a first-year speaker. Cartwright received the Mental Attitude Award in recognition of his selfless contributions to Bethany's team.

The speech team finished third in state, the highest of any Bruin team to date, and the debate team finished 12th in state. The World Schools debate team finished 5th in state.
