2022 Forensics Awards

Our speech and debate team had a lot to celebrate as they ended their regular season with their awards dinner on March 28.

This year the team earned 1st in the Northeast Indian District Debate, 1st in the Northeast Indiana District Tournament Sweepstakes, 5th in the ISSDA Sectional, and 5th in the ISSDA State Class A tournament.

Individual achievements were honored, including Jacob Leininger who placed sixth in the state for impromptu, being the first podium finish in Bethany history as well as being named Academic All-American, the 10th in Bethany history.

As the seniors were recognized, they each gave a short reflection on their time with Bethany's speech and debate. Josiah Schlabach had this to say, “Speech and debate has changed my life. It has helped to not only be a better communicator but a better listener. It has given me confidence that I did not have prior. I have made some great friends as well.”

To complete the season, sophomores Nico Brenneman-Ochoa and Ian McHugh will be competing in the National tournament this summer.
