Spring Sports Wrap-up, Ending an Incredible 2022-23 Athletic Year

Bethany student-athletes once again displayed exceptional dedication, sportsmanship, and skill through the spring sports season. Athletes were recognized for their accomplishments for the spring sports season, awarded senior scholar athletes, and the Bodiker Loyalty Award winners were announced. This was the inaugual season for the new outdoor athletic complex which doubled gate admissions. This season two more Hoosier Plains Conference (HPC) titles were added. That makes Bethany winners of 8 out of 11 HPC titles this school year!!! Way to go, Bruins!!

Let’s take a closer look at the spring sports accomplishments.

Golf team, led by senior Cam Heinisch fielded a very young team exhibiting incredible improvement throughout the season. Several golfers who picked up a club for the first time last year showed remarkable improvement from last year to this year. The team fell just 12 strokes shy of an HPC title. Although girls tennis lost several winnable matches due to weather, they had a strong year finishing 7-6, and the JV was 7-2. They had exciting 3-2 wins over Central Noble, Prairie Heights, and knocked off a strong Mishawaka Marian team. View their season records here.

Baseball won a share of the HPC title in dramatic fashion - after dropping a heartbreaking 10-11 game against Elkhart Christian Academy (ECA) the first game, the team had to win the next night to secure a share of the title. During the second game Breece Erickson hit a double which batted in the winning runs, as the Bruins held on for a 3-2 win and a share of the title. View their season records here.

Girls track & field had a great year finishing 5-2 and winning the HPC championship on Bethany’s new track. They won by 4 points over ECA. Congratulations to Kolette Kern for setting a school record in the discus, and Bailee Brown for setting school records in both the 100m and 300m hurdles, while also advancing to regionals. Boys track & field went 4-3, finishing 2nd in the HPC, just 15 points behind Trinity. Congratulations to senior Avery Rusel who advanced to the regionals in the 200m dash. View their season records here.
