Art

At Bethany, art education is important and fun! Creating a drawing or painting or sculpture requires risk-taking and problem-solving, both of which are important in all areas of learning. Our world needs creative problem-solvers and imaginative thinkers and the art room at Bethany is one place where students can try, fail and try again within a supportive environment. It’s also important that students gain a joy for creating with their hands and an appreciation for and understanding of the visual arts. Art classes for all ages include art history lessons and hands-on creating using a variety of materials. They receive both step-by-step drawing instruction as well as a chance to add their own artistic decisions to their artwork.

Lower school students take art classes 1-3 times per week, depending on the class.

Middle school students have art 3 times per week every other quarter.

When students get to high school they have the opportunity to “choose a track” where their interests lie: 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional art. Once they take the “Intro” class they are free to take any of the advanced classes offered on that track.  And, of course, many choose both! Advanced classes include: Drawing I & II, Painting I & II, Sculpture I & II, and Ceramics I & II.

Other art classes are often offered during our intensive 3-day Interterm. Past examples include Printmaking, Wearable Art, Jewelry and Mural Painting.
