“Cup of Kindness" award
Each year the faculty of Bethany Christian High School recognizes a student who has demonstrated exceptional kindness by helping and showing compassion to others. A handmade mug made by Rothshank Artworks symbolizes this “Cup of Kindness” award.
The award recognizes unusual acts of kindness shared with others here at Bethany and the recipient of this award shows exceptional behaviors in this regard, including: helping other students to understand and learn treating peers and adults with kindness and respect demonstrating concern for those in need of help.
This year’s award winner treats others with kindness and patience. Teachers are quoted as saying, “this person gets along with everyone in class and works well with anyone they have been assigned to without any complaints.” Another teacher stated “This person is a great example of living kindly and graciously. They allow room for friends, and staff, to make mistakes and then extend grace when they do. They are endlessly patient with younger students and their own peers.” Another teacher added that “She's a great big sister and a great mentor for our younger students. My daughter is not into sports, but she loved playing volleyball with NIVA because of this young lady.” A classmate added that “they had come closer to their faith in part because of the time she had spent with this person during senior trip” Finally, I (Hank) went to our award recipient's siblings to dig up just one time when she was mean and her sister could not in good faith come up with even one time, though her brother did mention that once Madison had told them in a very stern voice to be quiet while she was driving in traffic.

Art Purchase Award
Each year the school purchases a student art piece. The original artwork will be displayed in the Bethany hallway, along with works of past art purchase awards.
This year’s Art Purchase Award award goes to Mara Miller!
Mara is a mature, confident artist with her own strong, artistic voice. It’s been inspiring to watch how she has used art to express herself and to help her work through events in her life. While there were many strong pieces, the members of the Art Purchase Award committee kept coming back to this painting. It’s a piece that makes you stop and look, wonder and ask questions. The committee loves the thought of this piece stopping people in their tracks for years to come.
