“For people who have never seen a seed turn into a plant, they get to witness this miracle!” That’s the heart behind the 2024–2025 Fourth Grade Plant Sale — a project that not only supported the environment but encouraged people to step outside and start gardening.
Students took on a variety of roles to bring the sale to life: advertising, planting, caring for seedlings, organizing locations, and managing sales. For many in the community, it was their first experience with gardening. “Some people came up to me and asked for help gardening because they had never done it before!” shared teacher Adam Friesen.
Fourth grader Camila said, “It’s not about the money, it’s about helping the environment.” Still, the sale raised an impressive $1,380! Nearly all of the plants were sold, and students were excited to see their hard work make a difference. “The plant sale helped the environment and helped people start gardening,” added classmate Conrad.
Now the students are thinking about how the money can keep growing good things. Ideas include planting a native wildflower garden on school grounds, buying supplies for future plant sales, or donating to local environmental organizations. Whatever is chosen, students hope it continues to support both the Earth and the people who care for it.
More than just a fundraiser, the Plant Sale was a hands-on learning opportunity. Students practiced teamwork, money management, hospitality, and—of course—gardening. It was a meaningful, fun, and impactful experience that brought new life to the community—one plant at a time.
