News From the District Speech Tournament

Senior Eviella Sefu advanced to the national tournament today as a result of events at the District Speech tournament.

While placing fourth in programmed oral interpretation at the Northeast Indiana District speech tournament, Sefu advanced to the national tournament. She had been first alternate in Congressional debate on the Senate side, and a competitor who had placed ahead of her qualified in another event today and chose that speech event. That competitor gave up their Senate slot, advancing Sefu to the national tournament, held this coming June in Richmond, Virginia.

Sefu was also recognized for making the All-District team, an honor given to the top 25 students in the district, as measured by National Forensic League (NFL) merit points.

Sophomore Bennett Brown earned his fourth NFL degree, Distinction, for his efforts in United States extemporaneous speaking today breaking the 250-point level.

The team competes next in the rescheduled District debate tournament at Concord next Saturday.
