Dead Man Walking
Feb. 21, 22, and 24 are the scheduled performances of Dead Man Walking, which will prompt us to reflect on the role that Christian faith plays in contemporary social justice issues. This play most obviously focuses on the death penalty, but also highlights issues of racial and economic justice. This compelling story, with thought-provoking reflections from author Sister Helen Prejean, urges us to consider our roles in working for a more just society.

The cast will also be performing excerpts in conjunction with the 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, free talk by grammy-nominated folksinger John McCutcheon, "The Arts as an Agent of Social Change" at Waterford Mennonite Church. Read more.
The directors have also compiled statistics surrounding the death penalty in Indiana, the U.S. and worldwide.
The impact of Dead Man Walking is also extending into the following areas of school life:
- junior-level American Lit class is read Prejean's book Dead Man Walking
- justice is the theme for the 2008 Spring Arts Day
- the theater department will host a coffee and conversation time after each performance
- the theater department is compiling death penalty statistics to be displayed at the performances
- senior Bible students will be discussing the theme of justice around performance time
