About Andrew Lanctot

I grew up in Elkhart, IN as the son of a teacher and a pastor. I attended Bethany Christian High School from 1996-2000 and Goshen College from 2001-2004. I have taught in public elementary schools in Elkhart, IN, Bradenton, FL, and Goshen, IN. This is my first year teaching at Bethany.

I do life with my wonderful wife who teaches Art in Elkhart, three children who all attend Bethany, and one mini-golden doodle. We are members at Berkey Mennonite Avenue Fellowship in Goshen.

My favorite things to do are read, play sports, and play yard games and board games. I also enjoy watching sports, listening to great music, and visiting and viewing great art.

What is your philosophy of teaching?

I believe relationships are the key to deep learning and powerful teaching. Curiosity and kindness are the two things I value and emphasize the most in my role as a teacher.

What kind of classroom experience do you try to create for your students?

I create a classroom that feels safe and comfortable for all students. I enjoy allowing students to be creative and take ownership of their learning. I push students to grow their passions, learn about the world, and take risks. I always ask why questions as we enter into learning experiences. I value when students start to ask why questions about what we are learning, what they want for their lives, and what they see in the world around them.
