2022 High School Interterm Descriptions
Interterm March 21-25, 2022
Indigenous Peoples of Indiana and Michigan
Learn about local and regional Indigenous people, in the past and in the present. We will visit historic sites, meet with people from the Miami tribe and the Potawatomi tribe, visit local museums, and do hands-on cultural activities. Activities could include a drum circle, a fur-trading simulation, making fry bread, and flintknapping or other traditional skills.
Lacasa Volunteer Interterm
Bethany students in the Lacasa Volunteer Interterm will assist this local nonprofit in maintenance and improvement of Lacasa-owned rental properties in Goshen. Students will learn about many different aspects of home maintenance and repair while assisting this housing advocacy organization.
Perspectives on Creation
This course will explore cultural and religious stories about creation. We will compare these stories across cultural and religious groups. We will do some journaling and discuss creation care, and some volunteering related to creation care.
Overnight Travel - Wednesday, March 23
March Madness is all things basketball. Students will learn basketball history, coaching techniques, participate in a basketball practice, create an expansion NBA franchise, and other basketball topics.
Includes an overnight trip to the DII Elite Eight games in Evansville and a stop at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Overnight Travel - Tuesday-Friday, March 22-25
Students will hike the Knobstone Trail, Indiana’s longest foot trail. They will learn backpacking skills, use preparation and planning, gain wildlife knowledge, build campfires, and cook outdoor meals.
Things That Fly: Planes, Model Rockets, Drones, and Other Stuff
If it flies, we'll play with it! Design, build, and launch your own model rocket. Try your hand at flying a remote-controlled paper airplane, or the school's DJI Phantom 3 drone. Ride the simulators at the AirZoo, and tour an airplane factory. Wrap up the week by taking the controls and flying a real plane at the Goshen airport!
From the Bass Up: Build Your Own Instruments
Learn and apply the principles of sound to design and create your own instruments from scratch.
Instruments we will make:
-PVC Pipe Piano
-3-String Box Guitar
The week will end with a recital where students will have a chance to show off their new skills and instruments.
Students will learn different printmaking techniques, including: Linocuts, Monoprints, and Dry Point Prints. A potential field trip to The Imagination Spot included.
Some Strings Attached: Adventures in Beginning Guitar
Guitar is one of the most popular instruments in the hands of musicians around the world. It is very portable, relatively affordable, and fun to play! Participants will learn:
-basic strumming and chording techniques
-basic music theory
-from recordings of famous guitarists
You will receive a new guitar that is yours to keep!
A Week of Service
We will spend the week exploring the joy and transformation that comes from serving others. We will learn and work with different groups that serve our local and international communities, such as MCC and Soup of Success.
